Thrift Week 5- Family Vacation

My husband was gone for an entire week for a mission trip with our youth group.
I wanted him to go so bad to experience working for God, but at the same time I was a little scared of how I would handle one week as a single mom! Props to all of you ladies doing it on your own... I would be hairless if I had to do it everyday. But, I trusted that God knew the leader of our home was gone for His work, so I asked Him to give some extra grace for the week of Daddy's absence.
But, before Shannon (my hubby) left, he promised me some thrift store therapy apon his return.
So, I did not forget this promise and the day after he came home, I was off to Tyler for some Mommy time.
I have to say, the best part about the whole thing was driving for 30 minutes to Tyler listening to Christian music on the way there. I really clears my soul and puts things into perspective for me.
I heard my new favorite song by Toby Mac...
Lose My Soul.

SO, when I got there i was in the best mood ever.

WHAT I TRIED ON...

I found some great stuff and tried on a lot. I always go into the dressing room with a plan.
I lay everything all out and try things on in some kind of sensible order.
See more here..

WHAT I CAME HOME WITH...
I had in mind that i was buying things for our vacation we were taking the next day to Wimberley, Texas.
I needed things to keep me cool. I am having some issues with shorts lately being too short and I am getting too old. SO, I wanted something more longer and age appropriate.

I spent only $32 on 11 items. I got 2 hats, 5 shirts, 2 shorts, a skirt, and a dress top for my daughter.
These are some of the details I fell in love with on the items. I loved the embroidered elephant on the dress top I got for my 2 year old Madelynn. I also loved the ladybug print on this sheer top I got for myself.

This is our traditional family photo from the trip...
this is last year's

In this picture we took at 7A Ranch Resort,
Madelynn is wearing her elephant shirt dress from Goodwill.
Maisy is looking pretty, but has no thrifted pieces on.
I have on the plaid shirt and yellow shorts from Goodwill trip.
Leopard scarf from WalMart.

Here we are at the most awesome store in San Marcos, Texas called Paper Bear.
I finally got me a pencil sharpener in the shape of a nose that I have been wanting for so long now!
Don't be jealous, you can go get one too...
I am wearing my lady bug shirt with vest from previous Goodwill trip along with my long shorts from this trip.

I had to get a shot of my newly pierced nose...
THis stud and I are still newlyweds.

Unfortunately with all of vacation's hustle and bustle, I was not able to get all the outfits photographed. But I will try to add them beneath this post just in case you were dying to see it (yeah right!).
But, for my own peace I will try.
Have a blessed week and keep reading.

This shirt and salmon top are from this week's thrift trip. The vest and shoes are from past thrift trips.

I love this midge podge pin broach that I bought from Hobby Lobby! It is super artsy...
$6.99 Sam & Libby shoes from past Goodwill shop trip. Love the topaz stone on the shoe. It is my birth stone and just my size... That means I had to buy them.

Thrift Fashion Week 4- What I Wore Wednesday

Ok, I am again going to attempt to do a
Pleated Poppy
What I Wore Wednesday Post!
Here we go...
I almost did not take a photo this day because I was ashamed that nothing I was wearing was thrifted...
but my shoes are DIY saddle oxfords, so I guess I felt like that counted as something.
When most people might feel ashamed wearing thrifted clothes,
I feel ashamed not wearing them!
Plaid Shirt- Old Navy
Green shorts- Target
Shoes- WalMart white shoes painted like Saddle Oxfords

My husband, Shannon, found this beautiful vintage dress
in his prop closet. He brought it home to me to try on and I love it!
I felt like a princess in it.
Although I did not really wear it out...
I am dreaming of the day I will.

Cropped Jacket- Thrift Store/ Goodwill
Mauve Top- Goodwill
Pants- Old Navy

Cropped Cardigan- Good Will
Purple Tee- Goodwill
Skirt- Goodwill
Tights- Walmart

I love this outfit for some reason! I just felt like ME in it!
I just got this tee and vest from Goodwill the previous day.
I love them together.
The skirt is a previous find at Goodwill.
Shoes from Payless.

Native American Accessories... a journey back to childhood.

I am not sure why, but I am a sucker for all things that look like cheesy Native American souvenirs.
When I was little, my dad had this guitar strap that was make from this ribbon like this...
Top Ribbon: found at Goodwill in the form of a belt
Bottom Ribbon: Walmart Fabric Dept.

I was a very visual child, and I remember having an attachment to the way it looked.
It is now nostalgic to me and makes me feel like a kid again.

Also, as a child, we used to sped out summers staying at
7A Ranch Resort in Wimberley, Texas.

http://www.7aresort.com/index.php/pioneer-town/

In the pioneer town, there was a souvenir shop that had this little beaded purses, doll necklaces, and cheap Native American trinkets (although probably made in China). I used to have all that stuff from there at one point, but it got lost, broken,  or thrown away as I grew up.
But as most people, you want all the stuff back you had as a child...
I guess to feel like a child again.
So, I am going through this weird phase where I am trying to gain back all these things Native American "ish" trinkets I once had.

Here is my journey attempt back to my childhood...

I saw these purse necklaces at Canton TradeDays ( AKA First Monday)
I remember then asking about $20 for them there...
and I was thinking that I could just make them if I found ribbon like that.
So, I began searching for this style ribbon.
I bought the two ribbons above from Goodwill and Walmart.

These are some things I have been collecting over the years.
If I see something that sparks a memory, I buy it.

I made this with the belt I bought at Goodwill using the picture I took from Canton as a guide to making the purse necklace... It was actually pretty easy.

I found this Red Tank in HighSchool when I used to shop at the most awesome thrift store ever
called Value Village in Pasadena, Texas.
If you ever get the chance. GO GO GO there!!!

These two barrettes I got from a friend who understands my bizarre style (Thanks Cara!)
This Indian girl necklace I got as a girl from 7A Ranch Store, but it is broken.
I am thinking of somehow repairing it or changing it, but it is very delicate and I fear it may break even worse.. I'll sleep on it.

I got these shoes for Christmas to wear around the house.
I found them at WalMart of all places!

I used the ribbon I bought from Walmart to sew up a bow to wear as an accessory.

Pinstripe Jean vest, Jean skirt, and orange leg warmers (I cut from a sweater's sleeves!)  from my latest GoodWill trip, Tuxedo red shirt from Old Navy.

I am going to try to put together an outfit to go with my Purse Necklace when i have time...
This is what happened today while I was busy picking our the outfit today!

I laughed my head off!
Maddy got into Big Sister's make up kit (accidentally left open!).
Maybe i won't get "mother of the year", but maybe I will get "thrift store fashionista queen"!
