Lost Sock Thrift Fahion

REASONS I THRIFT,

1. MY MOMMY DID.

From the pages of SUPERTAB, my autobiographical comic

Thrifting has become a part of my lifestyle because it was part of my mom's.
Although I was embarrassed about her thrifty lifestyle during childhood,
I began to claim it in high school.

2. IT'S SPIRITUAL

Okay, before you roll your eyes and scroll past this one, hear me out.
I LOVE FASHION!
But it is NOT my first love.
I love God more.

It is hard for me to not get carried away with vanity and earthly consumption.
I want more more more! That is my earthly desire and it will never be totally fulfilled with whatever I purchase. I do this thing where I obsess over a piece of clothing that I want. It consumes my mind until I consume it! I think it will make me cool and happy forever. So, I buy it!
A year later, It did not do as i thought it would and i haven't worn it in months.
Isn't that life? To be hungry for more STUFF all the time?
We desire to consume and our appetite is insatiable.

I believe in my own "Lost Sock" philosophy.
This is where you use you imagination and creativity to find things that seem "trash" to the world.
From the eyes of an imaginative child, you can seek for "treasure" in things discarded.
I believe it so much, I wrote a book about it called, "The Lost Sock".

There's more to it than that though...
His Word says...

Matthew 6:25-34
“Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life... about your body, what you will wear. Is not life and the body more important than clothes?  ...And why do you worry about clothes? See how the flowers of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you—you of little faith? So do not worry, saying, ... ‘What shall we wear?’ For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has
enough trouble of its own.
'The grass withers, the flower fades,
Because the breath of the Lord blows upon it;
Surely the people are grass. The grass withers, the flower fades,
But the word of our God stands forever.”
Isaiah 40:7-8

I know that everything I possess there physically will eventually wither away and waste.
"Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal.
For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also."
Matthew 6:19-21
When I find myself obsessing about clothes, i take a step back. I change my perspective and look at what I DO HAVE instead of wanting more. I shop my closet, get rid of things that don't work anymore for me.
I thank God for all the beautiful clothes I own, give back to the store what I no longer need, and support them when I need more.
Matthew 6:33 Seek God first, He will give you your desires.
Phillipians 4:11-12- learn to be content and tankful in all circumstances.
Hebrew 13:5- Do not love money, be content. God is always there.
1 Timothy 6:6-8 be content with clothes and food. You will leave here with nothing.

If I do find myself REALLY wanting something, I pray that God will make it happen while thrifting. You know it is a HUNT when you go there, so I just believe I will receive if He wants me to have it.
If I do find it, I THANK GOD for putting it there!
Just like a parent likes to buy things for their children, God likes to give us things we want.

Mathew 7:11 "If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him!"

James 1:7 "Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the
Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows."

3. LOW COMMITMENT
When it comes to making decisions, I am pretty indecisive.
I annoy myself with it. So, If i really want something, I pray and think about it.

4. SELF EXPRESSION
My Style, Tabby Style
As an ARTIST, I feel the need to express myself always.
I am a visual person.
If I had to define my style, it would be eclectic.
It is a mix of bohemian, artsy, retro, 70's, collegiate, nautical (sailor/pirate), grandma chic.
I enjoy mixing and matching textures and patterns, like polka dot and plaid.
I also like juxtaposition of fancy and casual, like heels and a t-shirt or tennis shoes and a blazer.
I dress the way I feel inside and at times dress the way I want to feel.
For example, if I am feeling weak, but want to appear strong, I will dress is something
sharp, classy, and professional even though I do not feel it.  It is like armor to psyche myself out.

This song, "Doing ME" by Ray BLK expresses how I feel about clothing.
Listen...

Although I can sorta define my style, it
Changes over the Years.
I like to document days when I feel good about my style.

Looking back, Lots of these clothes I do not even own anymore
because I would never want to wear that outfit again.
At the time, it was "ME", but the fun thing is, we grow and change.
Thrifting makes it easy to rotate your wardrobe without feeling guilty.

One of the only thrift vlogs I made from Mineola shops.
I am inspired to do many more, but fear the cringe of myself.

Asymmetrical Black Bob...

Ok, I have been wanting a change in my hair to go along with my new widow status.
I want something strong, brave, gutsy, and sassy.
I feel as though my hair is my crown and it reflects how I feel inside.
And well, this is how I am feeling.
I have been wanting to go black for a long time...
see here...
but looking back at that post, I was so chicken and just tippy toed around just
GOING BLACK !
So, now that I am really black haird a year or so later... I am feeling like I have nothing to lose.
I have no husband to ask what he likes anymore. I usually did my hair the way he wanted and changed every so often to keep things interesting.
So now, I will just do what I want...

I found this girl Frankie online that is in a English Girl Band called The Saturdays.
I am not really super intersted in her music...
BUT HER HAIR ROCKS!!!
Seems like a lot of other ladies do as well. She is getting copied so much like
she is the new Victoria Becham because of her bob.

So, here are some of my favorite images of her hair...
I like this one because of the way her bangs are kinda off and crazy curled up...
That is what I am attempting below.

Here is another girl I discovered online with the same hair and she actually shows you how to get it done in the salon. I love her confidence and her makeup too...
MakeUpByEman on Youtube...
Her first explanination of her hair...
what to tell your hair stylist if you want this look...

Fake a Frankie...
my previous hair was like this...

but then I was brave enough to really go black, and was attempting to grow out the bob...
but that did not last long. I can't stand the in between phase of that creepy crawly hair on my neck.

So, I decided to just start slowly chopping a little more every night for a weekend.
Taking baby steps is the best way for me.
I cut my own hair and have for the last 15 years. I am a thirfty lady who does not want to pay somebody a bunch of money to give me a cut I really don't like anyways. I trained myself, after many years of tears after leaving a salon, to just do it myself.
People always ask me how in the world I do it...
It is a mix of feeling, looking, and cutting.
I can cut the back of my hair with my eyes shut... literally. I "feel" my way through the cutting process. It is kinda like sculpture. I touch, feel what is too long, not even, or out of spot and cut away. The front I do by sight. I use my scissor like a razor and cut with them half open and slide the scissor downward. It is a confusing process. But I usually do not cut my entire hair in one sitting. It is a weekly process of cutting, looking, cutting, looking some more, and more...
I may have some sort of OCD with my hair cutting ... OK!

SO, here is where I am today. Kinda there, but not quite yet. I know I may one day be brave enough to go full out almost bald on the nape of the neck, but that will take time to be that brave.

I'm not quite brave enough yet to cut the under back incredibly short like Frankie.
I may be later, but for now I am just going to Fake Frankie.
Top Left: Tuck my hair behind my hear to make it look more like Frankie's short.
Got the cheat idea from this cute as a button girl on youtube
lots of cute tips on how to style short hair...

So, this is where I am now. Hopefully I can get the guts to go full out Frankie! WE will see...
Till then, Peace OUt my fellow hair obsessed ladies!
God Bless your Tress...

Thrift Week 5- Family Vacation

My husband was gone for an entire week for a mission trip with our youth group.
I wanted him to go so bad to experience working for God, but at the same time I was a little scared of how I would handle one week as a single mom! Props to all of you ladies doing it on your own... I would be hairless if I had to do it everyday. But, I trusted that God knew the leader of our home was gone for His work, so I asked Him to give some extra grace for the week of Daddy's absence.
But, before Shannon (my hubby) left, he promised me some thrift store therapy apon his return.
So, I did not forget this promise and the day after he came home, I was off to Tyler for some Mommy time.
I have to say, the best part about the whole thing was driving for 30 minutes to Tyler listening to Christian music on the way there. I really clears my soul and puts things into perspective for me.
I heard my new favorite song by Toby Mac...
Lose My Soul.

SO, when I got there i was in the best mood ever.

WHAT I TRIED ON...

I found some great stuff and tried on a lot. I always go into the dressing room with a plan.
I lay everything all out and try things on in some kind of sensible order.
See more here..

WHAT I CAME HOME WITH...
I had in mind that i was buying things for our vacation we were taking the next day to Wimberley, Texas.
I needed things to keep me cool. I am having some issues with shorts lately being too short and I am getting too old. SO, I wanted something more longer and age appropriate.

I spent only $32 on 11 items. I got 2 hats, 5 shirts, 2 shorts, a skirt, and a dress top for my daughter.
These are some of the details I fell in love with on the items. I loved the embroidered elephant on the dress top I got for my 2 year old Madelynn. I also loved the ladybug print on this sheer top I got for myself.

This is our traditional family photo from the trip...
this is last year's

In this picture we took at 7A Ranch Resort,
Madelynn is wearing her elephant shirt dress from Goodwill.
Maisy is looking pretty, but has no thrifted pieces on.
I have on the plaid shirt and yellow shorts from Goodwill trip.
Leopard scarf from WalMart.

Here we are at the most awesome store in San Marcos, Texas called Paper Bear.
I finally got me a pencil sharpener in the shape of a nose that I have been wanting for so long now!
Don't be jealous, you can go get one too...
I am wearing my lady bug shirt with vest from previous Goodwill trip along with my long shorts from this trip.

I had to get a shot of my newly pierced nose...
THis stud and I are still newlyweds.

Unfortunately with all of vacation's hustle and bustle, I was not able to get all the outfits photographed. But I will try to add them beneath this post just in case you were dying to see it (yeah right!).
But, for my own peace I will try.
Have a blessed week and keep reading.

This shirt and salmon top are from this week's thrift trip. The vest and shoes are from past thrift trips.

I love this midge podge pin broach that I bought from Hobby Lobby! It is super artsy...
$6.99 Sam & Libby shoes from past Goodwill shop trip. Love the topaz stone on the shoe. It is my birth stone and just my size... That means I had to buy them.
