Jeremiah 17: 7-8 Spirit illustration

Jeremiah 17:7-8
Amplified Bible (AMP)
"[Most] blessed is the man who believes in, trusts in, and relies on the Lord,
and whose hope and confidence the Lord is.

For he shall be like a tree planted by the waters that spreads out its roots by the river; and it shall not see and fear when heat comes; but its leaf shall be green. It shall not be anxious and full of care in the year of drought, nor shall it cease yielding fruit."

Usually I get ideas by being inspired by music, quotes, my surroundings, or other artists work.
I was very inspired by this Del Barber poster I found online...
I loved the layers of the subdued colors stacked together with the texture defining brown lines on all the objects. I was fascinated by the way they exposed the layers of dirt below to show the roots and it reminded me of how we should root ourselves in Christ... or we will be fearful & fruitless.
So, I used the verse in Jeremiah for my Biblical Inspiration.
As an art teacher, I just got done teaching my students about Paper Cut-Out method done by Henri Matisse. So, I decided to use the paper cut out to get the layers I wanted of the background paper to doodle on top of.
I started with manilla for my foreground (tree trunk and dirt),
then brown (leaves, nest, grass, and roots),
pink (bird and fruit),
baby blue (water),
and finally sage green (background sky).

You can see some of the Matisse lessons we did here if desired on my LostSock Art Teacher Blog...

After I glued down the paper cut-outs, I then used Sharpies (brown, green, and rasperry) to doodle the texture on each part. After the doodle, I used colored pencils to add shading and highlights to the landscape. For the final step, I used this iridescent paper that I have been hording since childhood to cut a piece just right to layer over my water.
I enjoyed this process so much I am planning on making more in the very near future!
Now you can too!

Predetermined Blessings above Lucky Circumstance...

I just recently got a pack of metallic sharpies and wanted to use them creatively, but I was not sure how. I am a little weird with some of my art supplies. I consider some like "fine China" and only get them out for special pictures. I have Prisma Colors, but since they are expensive I hardly every use them. I feel this way about colored Sharpies as well. Top shelf supplies is what they are considered...
So, I am critically thinking out this Metallic Sharpie drawing before I create it.
I have been really inspired by an artist style, David Adrian Smith, and how he uses very intricate detailed designs in a classic way in his old school method of design.
You can watch this YouTUbe video on his work.
David Adrian Smith's Cover Design

I came across this "MoM" picture at my mom's house and was very inspired by the design and gold detail. It sparked my creativity to make an illustration of something I have been thinking of for a long while now.

It has always bothered me how people say, "I am lucky, you are lucky..." or whatever is from luck. WHat is luck? It is from thin air. THe Bible clearly stated that all good things are from the Lord. So, we need to give credit where it is due. Instead of saying something is from Luck, claim it as a "blessing" from Him. It is like us giving our children a gift, but then they say it just appeared from nowhere based on nothing. If we do not claim the place it came from and recognize things as gifts from our Heavenly Father, then he may just stop bringing them to us. But, when we realize they are from Him and thank Him for them, He will be more willing to give them to us in the future.

LUCK is invisible & comes coincidentally from nowhere.
We cannot give thanks to thin air.
But, all good things come from above,
claim them as BLESSINGS sent with His Love.

I created another picture using metallic sharpies, colored pencil, and manila paper.

This is the syle that inspires me also...
